چکیده

Sub-ppm hydrogen chloride (HCl) and water vapour (H2O) monitoring using photoacoustic spectroscopy in optical fibre manufacturing is reported. The development and performance of a sensor based on an acoustic resonant configuration is described, and on-site measurements are presented. Two DFB lasers emitting in the 1370 nm and 1740 nm range were used for the detection of H2O and HCl, respectively. A detection limit (defined for a SNR = 3) of 60 ppb for HCl and 40 ppb for H2O was achieved. Contamination sources of the carrier gas used for the fibre preform manufacturing are identified and discussed. PACS 42.62.Fi; 43.35.Ud

Design and Application of a Photoacoustic Sensor for Monitoring the Laser Generated Stress Waves in Optical Fiber

Measurement of stress transients generated by a 400ns pulsed HF laser in an infrared fluoride glass fiber has been made using fast time – response piezoelectric film transducer. Acoustic signals up to 12 mV with frequencies ranging in megahertz generated by 21 mJ laser pulse when passed through the fiber axis in the linear region. It is shown that useful information such as onset of non - linea...

Multi-gas sensing based on photoacoustic spectroscopy using tunable laser diodes.

Multi-hydrogenated compounds detection based on photoacoustic (PA) spectroscopy is reported. Three near-infrared semiconductor lasers are used with a resonant PA cell operated in its first longitudinal mode to monitor methane, water vapour and hydrogen chloride in the parts per million range. The design of our cell results from simulations performed in order to optimise its performances. Influe...

Photoacoustic Spectroscopy with Quantum Cascade Lasers for Trace Gas Detection

Various applications, such as pollution monitoring, toxic-gas detection, non invasive medical diagnostics and industrial process control, require sensitive and selective detection of gas traces with concentrations in the parts in 10 (ppb) and sub-ppb range. The recent development of quantum-cascade lasers (QCLs) has given a new aspect to infrared laser-based trace gas sensors. In particular, si...

Molecular relaxation effects in hydrogen chloride photoacoustic detection

A photoacoustic (PA) sensor has been developed to monitor hydrogen chloride at sub-ppm level in the 1740-nm region. The system was designed to control the process in the novel low-water-peak optical fiber manufacturing process. Relaxation effects in hydrogen chloride PA detection in oxygen– helium and nitrogen–helium gas mixtures are presented, showing that the generation of the PA signal is st...

Potentiality of Optical Fibre Bragg Grating Sensors for Resin Transfer Moulding Process Monitoring

Resin transfer moulding (RTM) is a widely used process for manufacturing composite parts. It is currently gaining market shares compared to autoclave process in particular for high performance applications, such as aerospace, thanks to its higher versatility permitting the manufacturing of complex and high quality composite parts in fairly short cycle times. The major disadvantage of RTM remain...
